Our client, an excelling freight forwarding and logistics organisation, with management of regular commercial freight logistics and specialising in providing comprehensive services for the movement of high- niche market products, are looking to recruit a talented Head of Perishables Department to be based at offices in the London Heathrow area.

Main Purpose of the role:
Reporting to the CEO and managing a team of 7 within the perishables department, utilising strong relationship building and account management skills to maintain and develop relationships with suppliers.
Key Responsibilities for the Head of Perishables Department:
Account Management & Growth
- Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of high-value perishable import clients
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships, ensuring a deep understanding of each customer s business needs
- Identify opportunities to expand and enhance service offerings, driving account growth and profitability
Operational Coordination
- Oversee the end-to-end logistics process for perishable freight including booking, documentation, and delivery
- Coordinate closely with operations, customs, and warehouse teams to ensure timely and cost-effective handling
- Proactively manage any delays or disruptions, quickly resolving issues to maintain product integrity
Relationship Building
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Sales, Operations, Finance) to offer tailored logistics solutions
- Conduct regular business reviews with clients to assess performance and explore new service opportunities
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers (e.g., airlines, shipping lines, hauliers).
- Negotiate and optimize supplier contracts to ensure competitive pricing and high service quality.
- Monitor supplier performance, addressing concerns and coordinating improvements to maintain service standards

- Proven track record within freight forwarding working with perishable items
- Proven team leader with exceptional management skills
- Strong knowledge of import procedures, customs regulations, and documentation processes
