The role...

GlobalData is looking for a permanent full-time editor to take responsibility for the FX magazine, website and associated portfolio.

For more than 20 years FX has been the essential magazine for the contract interior design industry, bringing our readers the best new products and projects from around the world, as well as in-depth reporting on the issues that matter to you, the designers, specifiers and end users.

Each issue of FX is packed with high-quality reporting on the design of offices, hotels, healthcare, educational and leisure facilities - all produced by our team of dedicated journalists and industry experts. FX e also leads the way in fostering debate and discussion within the design industry, bringing you strident views of some of the major players of the industry through our programme of design seminars and opinion pieces.

The publisher is looking for an editor with experience editing and writing for the architecture, art and interior design industries. The perfect candidate should have up-to-date knowledge of the architecture and contract design industries and experience line managing a small team of journalists. You should be able to discuss culture and design issues, and engage with principals of major practices, universities and public institutions.

Joining our central London office, you’ll take an active role visiting showrooms, exhibitions and events several times a week.

The editor will be tasked with liaising with existing, and creating new relationships with, major public institutions including V&A, Tate, National Galleries, and architectural bodies.

Working closely with colleagues the FX editor will help pioneer new initiatives to involve worldwide architects and designers and develop business opportunities to suppliers, sponsors and advertisers by bringing them together with key specifiers.

What you will be doing...

• Lead the editorial operation of FX, within GlobalData Media’s construction portfolio
• Edit original news articles and features produced by the team, ensuring relevancy for the key audience
• Manage, guide and develop a small team of freelancers and reporters
• Work with a designer to publish a bi-monthly magazine
• Train junior journalists on beat reporting, news and feature writing
• Establish – or further develop – a network of contacts and feature sources across the architecture and contract design industry
• Develop content ideas that are engaging, relevant and deliver on our audience strategy
• Support delivery of annual FX Awards
• Maintain and host the FX Design Seminars with lively discussions and provocative issues
• Support commercial opportunities

What We're Look For..

• At least two-years’ experience editing and writing original journalistic news stories and features
• Experience line managing journalists and freelancers
• Proven ability to identify, research and develop news and features in the architecture and contract design sectors
• Attention to detail and strong command of the English language
• Speed and accuracy are a must for this busy role editing news stories and comment/analysis articles.
• CMS and SEO knowledge desired but not essential
• Familiarity with MS Office, InDesign and Photoshop would be beneficial
