Humanities Educator - SEMH Provision (Maternity Cover)

Are you a compassionate and resilient educator with a passion for supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? A unique opportunity has arisen for a Humanities specialist to join a nurturing and therapeutic setting on a maternity cover basis.

About the Role:They will deliver engaging and accessible Humanities lessons (History and/or Geography) to learners with a range of complex needs, including SEMH and additional SEND profiles. Working in small groups-typically no more than three learners per class-they will play a vital role in creating a safe, structured, and emotionally supportive environment where every individual can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver differentiated Humanities lessons tailored to individual EHCPs.
  • Use trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to support emotional regulation and engagement.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including therapists, support staff, and leadership.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and personalised learning pathways.
  • Support with behaviour management using restorative and relational strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports for stakeholders.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working in SEMH or specialist SEND settings.
  • Be confident teaching Humanities subjects up to GCSE level.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of trauma-informed practice and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Be emotionally intelligent, adaptable, and committed to holistic development.
  • Hold QTS/QTLS (or be working towards it) and have a strong commitment to CPD.
