Transport Planner. Our client, a leading family-owned business specializing in transport and distribution across the UK and Europe, is seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join their dynamic and growing team. Role Overview:
As a Transport Planner, you will be responsible for planning and executing collection and delivery schedules in the most cost-efficient and effective manner, aligned with business objectives, customer service expectations, and current legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up the traffic pad in line with the drivers' rota, ensuring accurate allocation of drivers to vehicles.
- Book agency drivers as needed, prioritising in-house resources over subcontractors.
- Build an efficient traffic plan covering all loads while minimising empty mileage and maximising use of own fleet.
- Utilise back-load subcontracting when necessary.
- Request delivery bookings as per the traffic plan.
- Communicate the plan to drivers via phone or text.
- Accurately input subcontractor rates into the transport system and send confirmations to subcontractors.
- Maintain proactive communication with customers to meet service expectations.
- Review night shift handovers and adjust plans accordingly.
- Execute plans to meet customer KPIs and internal targets.
- Manage breakdowns from initial notification through to repair, ensuring stakeholders are informed and plans adjusted where necessary.
- Respond to operational delays and amend plans as required to uphold service levels.
- Action customer requests appropriately and promptly.
- Integrate additional loads into the daily plan and update relevant systems and stakeholders.
- Ensure equipment availability as requested by service providers or the Transport Manager.
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven experience in a Transport Planner role.
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective liaison with drivers, customers, and internal teams.
- Sound knowledge of transport regulations and safety standards.
- Proficiency with transport management systems (TMS) and software.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Remuneration & Benefits:
- Salary: £32,000 - £36,000 (DOE)
- Shift pattern: 4 on / 4 off, 08:00-20:00 (12-hour shifts)
- 20 days holiday per annum.
