We are seeking a BSL Communication Support Worker to assist students 16+!

- Salary: £22.50 to £30 per hour
Day-to-day of the role of a BSL Communication Support Worker:
- Support learners during initial assessments using sign language to enable them to complete assessments effectively.
- Provide one-to-one BSL translation, both direct and indirect, for Deaf and hearing-impaired students with a variety of hearing loss, primarily in the learning environment.
- Interpret BSL to English voice-over live in a learning environment.
- Mentor Deaf learners using qualifications and experiences to keep them on track, address any concerns, and in turn raise attendance and achievement.
- Support, mentor, and coach other staff within the service provision for Deaf learners.
- Keep up to date with mandatory training provided by the college and attend all in-person staff development sessions, e.g., Health & Wellbeing.
- Integrate and provide full inclusivity to Deaf learners.
Required Skills & Qualifications for the BSL support worker role:
- Completion of BSL level 3 to level 6.
- Experience working in the Further Education Sector.
- Proven ability to work alongside lecturers, translating spoken English into British Sign Language for students who are Deaf or hearing-impaired.
- Experience in mentoring and supporting Deaf learners and staff within educational settings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to inclusive educational practices.
