High-Level Teaching Assistant

Location: Tolworth (KT9)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Term-time only, 39 weeks)

Hours: 38 hours per week 08:15 - 16:00 (16:15 on Mondays; and 15:00 on Fridays)

Salary: £25,759, rising to £26,295 after probation

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated High-Level Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 14-18 on our Pathways to Employment programme. This unique provision is designed for pupils who benefit from a vocational, community-based approach alongside Functional Skills qualifications.

You will begin by working alongside an experienced colleague before moving into 1:1 support. Pupils often have social, emotional, and mental health needs, as well as additional learning challenges. The role involves a mix of academic support, life skills coaching, and accompanying students to vocational courses, work experience, and community activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 or small group support in English, Maths, and life skills.
  • Support pupils during vocational training, work placements, and enrichment activities.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to encourage independence and confidence.
  • Work with parents, carers, and external professionals to support pupil progress.
  • Contribute to behaviour and education plans, recording progress and sharing updates.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, and inclusion at all times.
Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience working with or supporting children/young people.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience in supporting pupils with SEN/SEMH.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to undertake training, including safeguarding and physical intervention.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and basic IT skills.

Desirable:

  • Level 3 TA qualification.
  • Experience in SEN settings or with SEMH needs.
  • Understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
  • Knowledge of educational software and tools.
