As a BMS Design Department Lead, you will be responsible for managing the design team, ensuring that all BMS control system designs meet the highest standards in quality, efficiency, and compliance. You will oversee day-to-day department operations, review and approve designs, and drive continuous improvement to keep BMS designs at the forefront of the industry.
This flexible role will primarily be based Coulsdon however may require occasional travel to projects around London.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the BMS Design Department, overseeing daily operations.
- Ensure all design deliverables align with ISO 9001 Quality Control System standards.
- Conduct regular design reviews with design and project managers.
- Oversee and approve panel design and build processes.
- Attend project handovers and design meetings, working closely with design managers and project teams.
- Collaborate with manufacturers and suppliers to source technical information.
- Identify and communicate design variations that may affect project scope or contract terms.
- Monitor project design hours to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery.
- Work closely with design managers, project managers, and panel engineers to ensure smooth project execution.
- Provide technical support to design managers and guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Support the training and development of junior engineers and trainees.
Skills Required
- Proven experience leading a BMS Design Department or managing BMS designs for large-scale construction projects.
- Strong working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), including Schneider, Distech, Tridium, and Delta.
- Experience liaising with main contractors, design teams, trade contractors, and senior management.
- Ability to review and quality-check engineered solutions while identifying commercial and technical risks.
- Experience producing engineering documentation, such as Points Lists and Descriptions of Operation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building services.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.
- CSCS cardholder (or willingness to obtain one).
- Knowledge of IT networks and topologies.
- High-level understanding of cloud-based technologies and smart building concepts.
