SEN Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher for a long-term temporary role, with the potential to become permanent, starting in January 2026. The successful candidate will be working with children who have severe learning difficulties and autism, providing specialised support and education.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Teach and support a class of 8 autistic children, four of whom have high sensory needs.
- Implement sensory circuit programmes throughout the day to meet the proprioceptive and vestibular needs of specific children.
- Engage in activities that cater to the sensory preferences of children, such as playing with textures they find appealing.
- Manage and support a child with epilepsy, ensuring safety and tailored learning experiences.
- Utilise communication aids like Makaton and PECS to facilitate communication with pre-verbal children.
- Address and manage behaviours that challenge, ensuring a supportive and understanding environment.
- Prepare for the role with a handover in December prior to the official start date.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience teaching children with severe learning difficulties and autism.
- Proficiency in using Makaton and PECS is preferable.
- Ability to create and implement effective sensory integration techniques.
- Strong understanding of the educational needs of children who are cognitively learning below 2 years of age.
- Capability to manage and adapt to challenging behaviours in a classroom setting.
- Must be available for an interview next week or the week after.
