From boats and bicycles to cars and vans, the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has an exceptional fleet. As a Vehicle Technician you'll help keep it prime condition using your technical skills. It means you'll play a vital role, supporting policing in London. What's more, as part of our team, you'll be responsible for the fleet's entire lifecycle.
Every day across London, the MPS's vehicles are called on for a wide range of duties. Our fleet of 5000 vehicles, 1000 pedal cycles and 25 marine vessels are important assets that enable our officers and staff to carry out their jobs.
As part of our team, you'll maintain and enhance our fleet so it's always ready to roll. The fleet must be safe, fit-for-purpose and available to support the MPS 24/7/365. Day to day, you'll maintain vehicles in our specialist workshop, working on both routine and unscheduled repairs. You'll also support Technical Supervisors, inspect and road test vehicles, diagnose any faults and follow the 'end to end' process for each manufacturer's warranty process.
To join us, you'll need experience in the vehicle repair industry, ideally with a wide range of manufacturers. You'll also need an NVQ level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) and a DVLA category B licence. With this background, you'll be capable of determining the serviceability of all vehicle components - mechanical, electrical and hydraulic. You'll also be ready to inspect vehicles, identify electrical faults and follow multiple manufacturers' repair instructions, including specific methods and techniques.
This is an opportunity to help keep the capital safe: a hugely rewarding feeling. In return for your skills, you can expect a competitive salary, a Civil Service pension and excellent career development.
