Deputy Head of Year

Full Time Term Time Only October 2025 StartUp to £135 per day Long Term Role (Temp to Perm)

Long Term Futures are working with a large, inclusive secondary school to appoint a Deputy Head of Year for Year 8 to start from October 2025.

This is a non-teaching role with a strong focus on pastoral care, behaviour management and attendance support. You'll work closely with the Head of Year, safeguarding leads, and wider support staff to ensure that students in Year 8 are thriving both academically and emotionally.

The role is ideally suited to someone with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or extensive school-based experience in pastoral leadership, behaviour mentoring, or inclusion roles.

Key Responsibilities: Provide pastoral care and behaviour support for Year 8 pupils Monitor attendance, punctuality and engagement, intervening early when needed Support the reintegration of students following absence or behavioural incidents Build strong relationships with students, families, and teaching staff Liaise with the safeguarding and SEN teams to ensure joined-up support Contribute to behaviour plans, progress reports and pastoral tracking

Ideal Candidate Will Have: QTS or significant experience in a secondary pastoral or behaviour support role Strong understanding of KS3 challenges, student wellbeing and inclusion Excellent communication and behaviour management skills Experience working with multi-agency teams and safeguarding structures A calm, approachable and consistent presence for students and staff

Location and Transport - East London / North London / Flexible Boroughs Easily commutable via Tube, Overground and local bus routes Locations will vary depending on school - accessible boroughs include Hackney, Newham, Waltham Forest, Islington, Tower Hamlets, etc. Staff parking available at most sites
