Governance Manager

We are seeking a Governance Manager to support the efficient operation of governance services at our client's institution. As a key member of the Governance team, the Governance Manager will provide support for the Council and help manage the corporate governance decision-making bodies, structures, and processes.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide business and secretariat support for governance committees, liaising with senior management and Council members as well as colleagues from across the institution.
- Prepare and distribute timely, high-quality meeting papers and related documents.
- Take meeting notes and draft minutes and reports to the Council.
- Manage logistical arrangements for high-profile meetings.
- Offer advice and guidance on technical aspects of governance and manage corporate initiatives as required.
- Draft and maintain the annual meetings schedule.
- Communicate governance and policy information, particularly through the website and by writing newsletters for Council members.
- Support the management of the institution's Policy Hub on the website to provide a single point of reference for all regulatory and policy matters.
- Support the University Secretary and Senior Governance Manager in the appointment and election processes for new Council and Committee members.
- Draft papers, policies, and procedures on matters of governance.
- Act for the Senior Governance Manager and undertake additional duties as may from time to time be required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present detailed and complex information to a wide audience.
- Significant experience of accurate minute taking for multiple meetings.
- Ability to build and sustain an effective network of internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a team but also capable of independent work and able to exercise an appropriate level of initiative.
- Rigorous, analytical approach with demonstrated commitment to a high service standard and attention to detail in an environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities.
- Demonstrated understanding of governance principles and practices.
- Experience working in a higher education or governance environment.
