Trainee/Assistant Quantity Surveyor Stonework & Restoration Location: Central London (with site visits required)

Our client, one of the UK s leading specialist stonework companies, is seeking a Trainee or Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their Commercial team in their Central London head office.

The Role Trainee/Assistant Quantity Surveyor This role is ideal for a Trainee QS looking to start their career in construction, or an Assistant QS with 1-2 years experience working for a specialist subcontractor. Working under the Commercial Manager, you will gain hands-on experience across key commercial activities, including estimating, cost management, contract administration, and procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in reviewing, analysing, and producing detailed quotations by measuring drawings, pricing, and estimating.
- Support the valuing, monitoring, and submission of monthly applications for progress payments on contracted projects.
- Help identify, review, and price variations to contracted works.
- Assist in providing a handover of awarded projects to the site team, procurement, and pre-construction activities up to site commencement.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure effective cost control and contract management.
- Support commercial reporting and documentation to help manage project finances.
- Conduct site visits as required to understand project requirements and monitor progress.
What We re Looking For - Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (or currently studying towards one).
- 1-2 years of experience in a Quantity Surveying or Estimating role within construction or a specialist subcontractor (preferred but not essential).
- Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Ability to interpret architectural and construction drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and basic knowledge of estimating or cost management software.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Stone industry knowledge is advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided.
- A keen interest in high-end stonework, restoration, and specialist construction projects.
- A full UK driving licence is beneficial due to site visit requirements.
