About the Role

Charterhouse, one of the world's leading coeducational independent schools, is seeking an exceptional Director of Football to join our dynamic Sports Department from September 2026. This is a unique opportunity to lead and develop the football programme at Charterhouse, inspiring pupils to achieve their highest potential in sport while promoting fair play and teamwork. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Sport and other colleagues to ensure football remains a cornerstone of our co-curricular provision, in line with the traditions and values of the School.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide football coaching for boys and girls across all year groups, including pre-season training and match video analysis.
  • Develop a clear strategy for the football programme, ensuring a continuum of coaching throughout the School.
  • Promote links with professional clubs and agencies, such as the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA).
  • Organise fixtures, tournaments, trips, and tours, including the annual prep school football tournaments and Gothia tour.
  • Recruit, manage, and appraise visiting football coaches, and deliver CPD opportunities for staff.
  • Coordinate the allocation of teachers to football teams and liaise with House staff to balance pupil commitments.
  • Manage football-related equipment and kit, ensuring timely ordering and maintenance.
  • Support the School's wider sporting provision and assist with other co-curricular activities.

Requirements

  • Level 4 UEFA A qualification (minimum).
  • At least three years' experience as a coach and/or player to a high standard.
  • First Aid qualification and full driving licence.
  • Strong IT skills for performance monitoring and record-keeping.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire confidence in pupils and parents.
  • A proven commitment to encouraging participation and developing excellence in sport.
  • Positive attitude to personal development and training, staying updated with best practices.
  • Willingness to embrace the all-round ethos of Charterhouse, including extra-curricular activities and pastoral care.
